Why I Love Letterboxd and How I Made My Own Wrapped

I’ve always been obsessed with tracking things—books I’ve read, games I’ve played, and most importantly, movies I’ve watched. That’s where Letterboxd comes in. It’s my favorite social media platform, and unlike other apps that slowly become doomscroll machines, Letterboxd has only made my life better.
It’s a film diary, a recommendation engine, and a place to write the dumbest (or most profound) thoughts about movies. It's where I log every film I watch, revisit old favorites, and make ridiculous lists. Over time, it’s become my cinematic memory bank, a place where I can see how my tastes have evolved—or how I’ve rewatched Lala Land for the 10th time just because it’s the best movie ever made.
Making My Own Letterboxd Wrapped
Every year, Spotify drops Wrapped, and every year, I think, Why doesn’t Letterboxd have one? Well, if the app won’t do it, I will.
So, I made my own Letterboxd Wrapped—a collection of stats, favorite films, milestones, and yearly stats. I pulled together my “Year in Review”, the yealry stats the app spits out (not elegant enough to be a wrapped"). It turns out, when you actually see your film year laid out like this, you learn a lot about yourself.
I used Adobe Express to create the layout but you could easily use an app like Canva instead. i chose a fun design and created the outline.
How to Write a Funny Letterboxd Review
One of the best things about Letterboxd is that it’s a lawless land where film criticism can be anything: deeply intellectual, aggressively unhinged, or both at the same time. I personally lean toward writing reviews that feel like the chaotic thoughts I have mid-movie.
If you want to write a funny Letterboxd review, here’s the secret:
Personal Chaos – The best reviews make a movie feel uncomfortably personal. Example:
"(500) Days of Summer — I got a lot of things to say about this movie, but Tom is me for real. 'Loneliness is underrated.'"Exaggeration – Amp everything up to 100. Example:
"Top Gun: Maverick — My pronouns are USA! eagle screech"Brevity is Key – Sometimes, the funniest reviews are just one sentence. Example:
"Not bad but could use more Saoirse Ronan."Say What Everyone’s Thinking – If a movie has a weird, random moment, capitalize on it. Example:
"La La Land — Turned it off after the montage in Seb’s. God, I love happy endings."
Letterboxd isn’t just a place to log films—it’s where movie lovers can compete to get the most liked comment on a new movie. So far that hasn’t been me but a man can dream.
